Israel Government Still Covering Up Historic Atrocities

Israel Government Still Covering Up Historic Atrocities

In 1948, just prior to the foundation of Israel Government , six Polish Christians were executed without trial in Tel Aviv and Jerusalem by the fledgling country’s Jewish army, the Haganah. An investigative analysis on the killings – dubbed the Riftin Report – was compiled for future Prime Minister David Ben-Gurion, but has never been made public until now.

Official refusal to disclose the document comes despite fervid recommendations by chief Israel Government archivist Dr. Yaacov Lozowick, and the campaigning of the investigative Akevot Institute.

”While many of [these] incidents are discussed in the press and in historical literature, the state goes to great lengths to withhold publication of archival records documenting the incidents and the state’s responses to them, citing the need to protect national security and foreign relations. The result is the distortion of history and denial of both a record of our near past and the ability to have a fact-based discussion about war crimes committed by IDF soldiers and members of the security forces over the years, including before statehood, and how to reckon with them,” Akevot argues.

The report apparently doesn’t resolve key questions of who the slain Polish Christians were, why they were in Tel Aviv immediately prior to Israel’s creation, and why they were killed in quick succession. However, it documents their fates with some detail.

“Three weeks ago, a Polish Christian was arrested in Tel Aviv and taken to Yona base. He was not interrogated. His guard shot and killed him. The body was taken and thrown into Hadassah Garden,” Haaretz quotes.

“Serious complaints have reached me about disorder and lawlessness among several members of the organization…robbery of Arabs, murder of Poles and Arabs without cause or with insufficient cause, and in any case without trial, improper actions toward Jews as well, cases of theft, embezzlement of funds, torture of Arabs during interrogation and the like,” Ben-Gurion wrote in his appointment letter.

This shouldn’t come as a shock to anyone who is aware of how the state of Israel was even created and the atrocities still being carried out by them today against the Palestinians.

Still Happening Today

The IDF also recently examined the case of Mohammed Tamimi, half of whose skull was crushed by a rubber-coated bullet, and decided that he’d been hurt when he fell off his bicycle.

The army had previously looked into the incident involving legless demonstrator, Ibrahim Abu Thuraya, who was in a wheelchair when he was shot and killed on the other side of the fence along the Israel-Gaza Strip border. It was decided that he was inciting and posed a security threat. In addition, the IDF investigated the case of the Gazan fisherman, Ismail Abu Riala, who strayed beyond the border of the marine ghetto – an original Israeli invention – whereupon the brave navy men shot him from their sophisticated patrol boat. Everything was investigated and no one is to blame for anything.

They are war crimes and crimes against humanity. Under the Geneva Convention, the definition of such crimes includes political, racist or religious persecution and/or other inhuman treatment. The IDF is committing war crimes and crimes against humanity, and most of the perpetrators are never called to account.

Seven Seriously Ill Gaza Women Refused Entry Into Israel for Treatment

The rejection highlights the uptick in denials of entry so far this year; Israel Government has refused passage to 769 people because they have close relatives in Hamas. One Gazan woman was recently turned down for treatment because her brother is a member of Hamas, another because her father had once resided in Israel illegally. For years, Efrat told me, Palestinian “women have been made to pay the price for the actions of the men in their families.”
