The Dept of Homeland Security is Dangerous to Our Liberties

The Dept of Homeland Security is Dangerous in Certain Situations.

Proving that the Dept of Homeland Security is dangerous in certain situations is not difficult.

There are currently 22 government agencies under the umbrella of the Dept of Homeland Security.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), one agency supervised by the Dept of Homeland Security, is responsible for responding to national disasters

After Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans in August 2005, FEMA was slow in response and inadequate in its preparedness to the crisis causing additional tragedy in the from of lack of aid, hunger of the people, and even death.

The Dept of Homeland Security, whose job it is to keep Americans safe in times of crisis, whether from terrorist or natural disasters, failed miserably in their coordination with local and state officials slowing down the response time of FEMA after Katrina.

Widely criticized by the media, the Dept of Homeland Security scrambled for an explanation.

With no plausible explanation forthcoming, many Americans are convinced that the Dept of Homeland Security is dangerous , and not just inadequate, to the preservation of life.

Border Control

The United States Border Patrol Agency, former known as the Immigration and Naturalization Service, is another child operation of the Dept of Homeland Security.

Homeland Security (HS) is now charged with keeping American’s safe via the Border Patrol.

Given its inept timely response to the emergency of Katrina, the fact that HS now oversees the security of our borders is almost laughable, if it were not so serious.

The problems with HS stem from low morale from employees to high turnover rates in the highest positions of the agency.

Americans Fear that Terrorists Might Infiltrate Our Country Via the Border Between Mexico and the U.S.

The fear is heightened when they consider that the agency who is charged with overseeing the prevention of this possible threat is the same agency who had more excuses for inaction after Katrina than resources to help the people, further proof that the Dept of Homeland Security is dangerous for the people.

But it should come as no surprise that the Dept of Homeland Security lacks concern when it comes to protecting or serving Americans.

After its inception, the Dept of Homeland Security revealed is indifference to human protections when it incorporated union-unfriendly practices within its mandates.

Government employees whose jobs were protected by the union where briefed that their jobs were no longer protected but instead they could be dismissed under a number of offenses without notification of their union representatives.

Curiously, one of the reasons targeted for dismissal was incompetence.

Red Tape

The creation of the nations largest bureaucracy increases the level of red tape the public experiences when they seek relief from a disaster.

A bureaucracy in concept operates much better than in practice.

The inherent dangers of slow decision making are almost certain given the rigidity of procedures and practices that do not focus on end results but rather the decision itself.

This problem is compounded by the inability of employees to use common sense versus regulations.

Group thought is prevalent among bureaucrats limiting an organizations ability to self analyze and implement corrective measures when mistakes are made.

Unclear objectives coupled with uninformed leaders only enhance the likelihood and probability that directives with go unmet, if not botched, proving once again the Dept of Homeland Security is dangerous for the protection and relief of the American public.
