Buying the best surveillance cameras for home, business and public spaces has become a point of pride and patriotism, and the cost in dollars and unconstitutionality be damned! The U.S. has become a surveillance-crazy nation.

There is very little thought going on in America today. Most people are motivated by fear–fear that the government and the powers that control the U.S. government have knowingly instilled into the American people.

Very soon it will be morally encouraged for the American people to spy on each other as well. Obama, the Democrat, has made it clear that he supports the introduction of a civilian security force.

Not only will this legitimize ratting on your neighbor, but it will cost the U.S. tax payer an independent fortune.

Already firms that manufacture and market what they claim to be the best surveillance cameras are marketing to the general public as well as government agencies at federal and state levels.

The word surveillance has bad connotations. There is a pretentious sort of James Bond 007 feel to the expression, and there is a kind of fascistic implicit threat behind it.

Private investigators and government bodies like the CIA and FBI should be engaged in surveillance, not American citizens.

And yet here we are, with owners of businesses populating their premises with cameras and proudly attaching the best surveillance cameras to gutters, trees and inside their houses.

This is not to deny that there is a place for CCTV cameras etc. as there always has been.

Some kinds of businesses, such as all-night supermarkets in cities and some parts of inner cities, have high crime rates, and CCTV and other surveillance equipment is a great help in preventing crimes and apprehending perpetrators.

But that is not to say that it is correct for unfettered surveillance to take place. The sophistication of the best surveillance cameras now being used by government and citizens alike is a point of contention.

The best surveillance cameras, for instance, no longer deliver blurry pictures and vague outlines. The cameras themselves are tiny, nearly invisible, and every detail of the pictures is now clear.

There is nowhere for anyone to hide. What should be a major worry to the American people, but which evidently is not, is that there is no protocol in practicing how to use these, the best surveillance cameras.

It is a free for all out there, and there is no telling how surveillance in the name of catching terrorists is being used for nefarious purposes such as blackmail and otherwise settling old scores.

Invisible Surveillance Cameras

There is one important difference between the type of cameras used for CCTV and the type of cameras used for surveillance. You are meant to see the former attached to the wall, ceiling or elsewhere. You are warned by signs that CCTV is watching you and you can see the hardware.

However, modern surveillance cameras are practically invisible to the human eye. You might be videoed in the shower and you would never know about it.

Just because it is illegal, of course, does not mean that this does not happen. In the name of combating and preventing terrorism, all sorts of spying methods are being used, sometimes with other secret motives.

Anyone can be a Spy

Not only do private citizens practice camera surveillance now, but soon legislation will actually encourage it. Obama has stated that he is in favor of the creation of a civilian security force. This will make it legal for American citizens to spy on other American citizens.

This level of cynicism is unprecedented in the Western world. Here you have the world’s most economically powerful nation, with a population that has massive spending power being given free reign to spy on one another. This is so wide open for abuse that it just about defies the imagination.

Cameras could be Abused

It is probably happening already, and it is illegal, but camera surveillance was thrown open to all citizens, and the entire U.S. citizenry became freelance amateur spies. The door is wide open for abuses on a massive scale.

Criminals can gain insight into people’s homes and businesses. People could spy on one another for reasons that have nothing to do with patriotism or catching terrorists. The abuses would be limited only by the imagination.

All these disgraces are now possible in the United States because, particularly under the George W. Bush presidency but prior to that as well, the Constitution has increasingly been pushed aside, ignored and otherwise abused. If that does not change, complete totalitarianism will be the result.
