Habeas corpus is the concept of a basic human right that goes back centuries, and the bill that eliminated habeas corpus sent the United States right back there.

Habeas corpus, also known as the Great Writ, literally translates from Latin to mean you may have the body.

It is a concept under the rule of law that dates as far back in English law as the 1200s and it effectively means the ability of a person imprisoned by the state to petition the court against unlawful detainment.

The notion of habeas corpus has long been considered by philosophers as the one true safeguard of liberty above all else.

In its purest form, it’s meant as a check and balance against the notorious designs of unjust people in power, otherwise known as the banking mafia.

The banking mafia is a group of the world’s wealthiest individuals descended from British and European royal bloodlines that offers credit to approximately 97% of the world’s money supply.

Currently, most nations accrue the debt of the credit lent by this elitist group of families. They charge exorbitant interest numerically impossible to repay and thereby maintain our enslavement to a false value system.

Also, the banking mafia owns governments and politicians, the media and most major businesses.

When the Military Commissions Act, the bill that eliminated habeas corpus in the United States, passed in 2006, under a cloud of secrecy while the American people were distracted with football and terrorism.

The U.S. government carved another mighty gash in the concept of true liberty.

Habeas corpus has in the past been suspended in times of rebellion or invasion, though history now shows many of these choices to be atrocious by today’s standards.

Looking back to the internment of thousands of Japanese Canadians and Japanese Americans during the Second World War, shame is felt by the most sensible in today’s society.

In Canada, proponents of freedom look at the handling of the FLQ crisis in October 1970 as a dark time in history.

This is when the War Measures Act was invoked and martial law brought hundreds of innocent Canadians to jails with no charge.

And yet today in the United States, the power to detain people indefinitely is as broad and sweeping as it has been at any point in history.

People Kept Buried in Fear Allow Anything

There is a belief among many Americans that their country represents a shining beacon of democracy for the world to admire.

American values and principles state that any person can achieve any goals they desire and freedom is the ultimate right of man.

In the days, months and years following the attacks of 9/11, these principles and values have been greatly compromised and the world has taken notice.

The Department of Homeland Security keeps people in fear and while in fear, they take notice of the suspension of liberties.

The bill that eliminated habeas corpus allows the U.S. government to detain anyone they deem to be an enemy combatant or terrorist. There is no need to prove anything.

They simply arrest whoever they wish and detain them wherever they want indefinitely. Iraqi, German, Syrian, or American- it makes no difference who the supposed terrorists are.

There is no right to an attorney or any right to a speedy trial, and the use of torture has become a gray area with no fine definition. The bill that eliminated habeas corpus deprives us of basic liberties.

This law manufactures terrorists.

It creates terrorists out of the U.S. military or law enforcement agents out of the upper levels of the U.S. government and out of the dusty streets of Baghdad or Kandahar City where families have lost loved ones into dark corners of America’s rendition chambers.

The bill that eliminated habeas corpus is perhaps the most flawed law to have ever been written.

Until the people demand a return of this right and a return to sensible treatment of those who come before the law, America’s status in the world will remain horribly tarnished by the banking mafia.
