The Control of Big Brother

The Outlandish Control of Big Brother is Very Much the Way Orwell Described. An All Knowing, All Powerful, All Seeing Government is Grinding Our Freedoms Into the Ground.

The Control of Big Brother in the famous novel by George Orwell was a totalitarian ruling party that ruthlessly controlled the people’s every move.

Americans are under the same control. There is no more privacy.

Written from 1947-48, the novel stands as a picture of the social and political structure of an imaginary nation.

Every writer receives inspiration from some kind of source; Orwell’s inspiration came from his view of the British democracy.

He was not shy about sharing his opinions during World War II; he thought that the British government, as it stood prior to 1939, would not survive the war.

Whether it would turn into a fascist or socialist state was what he wondered.

He was glad to be proved wrong and admitted his fault in thinking that war and revolution are inseparable.

Many thought that he wrote the book as a criticism of socialism. In a 1946 essay, Orwell stated that his work after 1936 was either “written, directly or indirectly, against totalitarianism and for democratic socialism.”

Before his death in 1949, Orwell stated in an interview that the book was not a reflection of socialism at all but one of the potential abuses that could be created by fascism and communism.

He used a totalitarian government based in an English speaking country in order to make the point that if not rebelled against, that type of regime could exist anywhere (and not just the Stalinist regime in Russia at the time).

Written by a self-proclaimed socialist democrat, it is not surprising that parallels are drawn between the make believe society of Oceania in the novel and the one existing in the modern day United States of America.

Control of Big Brother in the novel is exercised by the government. Who is in control of Big Brother in the United States?

Are the Elected Officials in Charge?

While it would be nice to hope that Big Brother does not exist, it does. The interesting question would be who or what is in control.

Being that Big Brother is the face of the government, one would hope that it is the politicians.

At least they can be impeached or simply not re-elected. However, what if the true Big Brother came from another source?

Money is widely reported to be the root of all evil, and it is well known that it is money that makes the world go round.

In the last presidential election, the amount of money raised by the candidates seemed to be publicized and talked about more than their beliefs!

Big Business

Corporations have been bankrolling candidates for years, both legally and illegally. When one receives a substantial amount of money from another, an unspoken obligation exists between the two.

“I Big Business, have scratched your, politicians, backs. It’s time for you to scratch mine”.

Corporations made millions from the prolonged war in Vietnam.

Oil company profits skyrocketed while the people could barely afford to fill their tanks.

Is it a coincidence, or is the control of Big Brother in the hands of the corporate world?
