The PC Surveillance System

Our Internet Freedom Must be Defended at All Cost Against Those Who Seek to Destroy the First Amendment.

Everyone is happy for the technological advancements that have produced PCs and other equipment that makes communicating easier.

But we must fight against the government’s incessant and illegal monitoring of what we do on our PCs.

It’s not new information that a PC surveillance system is gaining ground at the moment because of the perceived political threats attached to the free use of computers.

For example, in China the communist government feels that when people have access to personal computers and can freely connect with the rest of the world, this liberty could create problems.

The Chinese may end up learning about the ideals of democracy, and may pressure their government into adopting democratic rule, believing it invariably guarantees freedom of expression, association and happiness.

This and many other fears associated with unrestricted use of personal computers has been the major reason why the ideology of a PC surveillance system is becoming a household term.

No one would be glad to have his/her activities on a PC constantly monitored.

If this occurs, it is comparable to gagging a person with cotton wool in his mouth. How could we continue to send confidential messages to our loved ones when we understand they would be spied upon?

Some computer programs have been developed to track all the activities a person undertakes on his computer.

Many governments are subscribing to this system in order to control the actives of their citizens.

The United States is one of the more prominent countries that has called for the regulation of cyberspace, which invariably means that all things we do on our personal computers would be subject to censorship.

Who Stands to Gain?

The authorities and law enforcement agents that have been given legal protection to wiretap our information would gain a lot from this system.

But the real winners are the elite behind the government who use politicians as their pawns to achieve what they want.

They would use our information, even without getting our permission, to make decisions and plans that would further reduce our basic rights.

They would debase our dignity and make us appear less secure than we were before this craze for national security began.

Who are the Losers?

We, the citizens of the United States are the main targets of the PC surveillance system: and we stand to lose big from this operation.

Our destiny has been put in the hands of the authorities who could at will access our private or confidential information without us knowing.

In the course of this, they could carelessly pass our vital information to those who might use it to harm us or control us.

Therefore, it is important that people should protest against this system that takes away their privacy and turns them into helpless and hopeless subjects in a country that promises full-implementation of basic rights for the individual as stipulated in the Constitution.
