Who’s Affected by Digital Video Surveillance?

The Digital Video Surveillance Makes All Of Us Appear Naked Before A Spying Eye.

Is it really a quest for national security?

This and many other questions often pop up whenever people consider the proliferation of digital video surveillance all over American cities, towns and suburbs.

One can’t but imagine the transformation of the country into a police state.

In another word, it is†a kind of Big Brother posture that the United States should be responsible for keeping an eye on her citizens.

But should it necessarily be in this method?

No doubt people are getting suspicious about this whole idea and becoming enraged as they watch their privacy, very important privacy disappearing from them.

Isn’t it creepy to realize that one’s actions are constantly under the cameras and some prying eyes are peeking into one’s life?

At the malls, movie theaters, train and subway stations and even at the hospitals; these digital video surveillance equipment are hung like bats looking down on unsuspecting people!

Even though the concept of digital video surveillance has helped to capture live crime scenes and help the police to resolve criminal cases quickly, it is important to limit the scope of the use of surveillance cameras.

Aren’t We all Naked?

Everyone would agree that it is outrageous that such prying cameras should be planted at the public lavatory and restrooms.

But what we have today are the security cameras that lurk in even sacred areas all over America and making people feel naked and unprotected .

Yes, the mere thought of having all your hidden activities exposed is tantamount to not being secured, as a third party one would never know could have unlimited access to one’s life secrets!

So, when will the practice of†surveillance come to an end?

Waiting for Its End

Well, it may appear too optimistic for anyone to ever dream it would go away in the near future.

The so-called fight against terrorism has given the police more courage to find an excuse to abuse people’s privacy.

In as much as the terrorist threats are real and prevalent, it is better to concur that the hope of seeing security cameras vanishing in the coming years may seem unrealistic.

But how can one protect him/herself against this abuser of one’s privacy?

The recommendation may be simple: stay clear of any place you have identified any digital video surveillance equipment in case you want to indulge in some private activities.

Don’t Mess Yourself Up

It would be totally embarrassing for a highly respected personality, for example, an actor or a successful businessperson to be caught live on the camera picking his nose or performing some indecent acts.

The worrisome aspect of this matter is that the police and other security operatives did not duly ask for the public opinion before setting up all these security cameras.

Couldn’t there be some breaches of individual constitutional rights for self-protection and defense in this practice?

Is it always proper for the police and security personnel to utilize the quest to prevent terrorism to abuse the American people’s rights to privacy?

It would be nice if the authorities involved in this process could come out with some convincing reasons why they are toying with the American people’s privacy.
